HIPAA enforcement is increasing and the way to avoid finesand patient complaints is to ensure that your staff knows the HIPAA patient rights better than the patients. First, we will go over some common definitions, like what does HIPAA protect (PHI), what is "minimum necessary" and how must it be applied in your office. We will go over the changes in patient access rights, the right to amend the record, confidential communications, rights to restrict disclosures, accounting of disclosures and the right to the Notice of Privacy Practices and to file a patient privacy complaint.

Did you know that the OCR has put out guidance that you should only charge a $6.50 flat fee for medical records no matter what your state allows? In addition, we will teach your staff how to identify a breach and the proper method to report breaches. Breach documentation is key to showing ongoing compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule. Finally, we will discuss in depth Healthcare Cybersecurity.

The cybercriminals are after your data, your staff needs to know how to prevent the most common attacks (90% of all malware requires human interaction). Email protections, complex passwords and proper use of the internet are critical for your practice to keep intruders off of your network and out of your patient data. Finally, we will discuss common everyday HIPAA situations like calling patients to the back by name, common HIPAA violation of not posting your Notice of Privacy Practices in the waiting room and web site.

Why should you Attend: HIPAA enforcement is increasing and the laws (guidance) is constantly being updated. The Office of the Inspector General will now start enforcing Data Blocking with fines of up to $1,000,000 per violation. This webinar will keep you up to date on HIPAA's Privacy and Security Rule as well as the Breach Notification Rule.

HIPAA documentation is important as at some point you will have a breach and will have to show that you are not in willful neglect. This webinar will teach you how to be compliant in a timely and cost-effective manner.
